Betony May has created an installation of suspended postcards, each one containing an intricate laser-cut drawing, encased within a pair of light boxes. The drawings shine through the original scene, revealing new observations events and characters.
Betony May moved to this Victorian coastal town from London in 2011. Her illustrations are inspired by a culmination of present day characters, happenings and narratives she has encountered since taking up residence in this enchanting and eccentric seaside town.
Predominantly a printmaker and illustrator, this piece marks a new departure in her work. By working with the laser-cutting process, she has chosen to simplify and streamline her drawings to suit this new method.
Ilfra Expo would like to express its gratitude to Caine and also Hairport who have donated the use of their space for this exhibition.
